The Amalfi Coast is famous for its glamorous resort towns, dramatic cliffs, and sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea. But driving along the narrow, winding coastal road can be stressful, and tourist crowds can make Positano and Amalfi feel overwhelming. 

Fortunately, there is a better way. High above the coastal traffic lies the *Sentiero degli Dei*—the Path of the Gods.

### The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei)
This ancient trail connects the quiet mountain village of Bomerano (near Agerola) to Nocelle, a tiny hamlet perched just above Positano. As you walk along the limestone cliffs, you are treated to uninterrupted views of the sea, the rugged coastline, and the distant island of Capri.

*   **Distance:** Approximately 7.8 kilometers (one-way).
*   **Time:** 3 to 4 hours of leisurely walking.
*   **Difficulty:** Moderate. The trail is mostly downhill if you start in Bomerano, though there are rocky and uneven sections.

### Key Highlights Along the Trail
1. **The Sheer Cliffs:** Walk along narrow paths carved directly into the mountain rock, with drops of hundreds of meters down to the sea below.
2. **Abandoned Stone Houses:** Pass by old stone dwellings built by shepherds centuries ago, some of which are still used to store supplies.
3. **The Descent to Positano:** From Nocelle, you can either take a local bus or walk down 1,700 stone steps to reach the beach in Positano for a well-deserved gelato and dip in the sea.

### How to Prepare
Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring plenty of water (there are water fountains in Bomerano and Nocelle, but not along the trail itself), and pack sunscreen and a hat. The trail is almost entirely exposed to the sun, so starting early in the morning is highly recommended!

Tokyo is a city that thrives in the future, yet guards its past with fierce devotion. While most visitors flock to the towering crossings of Shibuya or the high-tech arcades of Akihabara, my favorite way to experience the city is by getting lost in its *yokocho*—the narrow, lantern-lit alleyways that date back to the post-war era.

### Step Back in Time
Entering a yokocho is like stepping through a portal. The roar of the subway fades, replaced by the sizzle of yakitori on charcoal and the low hum of laughter. These alleys are lined with tiny bars and eateries, some barely fitting five or six patrons at a time.

### Top Alleys to Explore
*   **Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane), Shinjuku:** Just steps from the busiest station in the world, this network of alleys is famous for its rustic charm, red lanterns, and incredible grilled skewers.
*   **Nonbei Yokocho (Drunkard's Alley), Shibuya:** A quiet contrast to the nearby Shibuya Crossing, featuring two parallel paths lined with tiny, vine-draped wooden bars.
*   **Harmonica Yokocho, Kichijoji:** Named for its grid-like structure that resembles the reeds of a harmonica, this spot is packed with local clothing stalls by day and lively izakayas by night.

### Yokocho Etiquette for Travelers
1. **Be Respectful of Space:** These bars are extremely small. If a place is full, don't try to squeeze in; simply try the next one.
2. **Order a Drink First:** It is customary to order a drink (beer, highball, or sake) immediately upon sitting down.
3. **Try the Otoshi:** Many places serve a small, mandatory appetizer called *otoshi* with your first drink. This serves as a cover charge and is a delicious way to sample local chef specialties.

Sensual Movement’s 9th Anniversary, a truly spectacular celebration of the art of bachata, unfolded from February 27th to March 3rd, 2025, at the luxurious Hilton Orlando (6001 Destination Parkway Orlando, FL, 32819). This magnificent event, which I had the distinct pleasure of attending as a student performer, provided an unparalleled opportunity to immerse myself in the world of sensual bachata, learning from some of the most renowned and respected artists and instructors in the global dance community. Furthermore, the festival allowed me to showcase the culmination of months of dedicated practice and rigorous rehearsals, presenting our team’s meticulously crafted choreography to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience.

### A Weekend of Unparalleled Dance and Deep Connection: The Sensual Movement Experience

The festival commenced with a truly electrifying pre-party on Thursday evening, commencing promptly at 10 pm and continuing with unabated energy until the early hours of the morning, concluding at 4 am. This vibrant kickoff set the stage for a weekend overflowing with passion, connection, and the shared love of dance. 

In keeping with the true essence of sensual bachata—a captivating dance style characterized by its fluid, wave-like body movements, close and intimate partner connection, and profound emphasis on musical interpretation—the dancing extended far beyond the official pre-party. Dedicated dancers, fueled by their passion, continued to move and groove at numerous after-parties, some of which remarkably persisted until the very moment of our scheduled tech rehearsal at 9 am on Friday! 

I must confess, the early morning rehearsal, following such a late and exhilarating night, presented a considerable challenge. However, the performance teams, drawing upon a reservoir of dedication and a touch of adrenaline, successfully rallied, and we meticulously tested our choreographies on the grand stage, ensuring impeccable preparations for the highly anticipated Friday and Saturday night showcases.

### Immersive Learning: A Deep Dive into Bachata Techniques through Workshops and Masterclasses

The comprehensive workshops, generously included with both the day and full festival passes, offered an exceptional platform for dancers of all levels to refine their skills and acquire new moves and intricate combinations. A diverse array of workshops, meticulously curated to cater to a wide spectrum of interests and skill levels, covered everything from the foundational elements of bachata footwork and partner connection to more advanced concepts such as musicality interpretation, styling embellishments, and the execution of impressive dips and tricks. 

The range of styles taught was extensive, featuring not only Sensual Bachata but also the energetic rhythms of Dominican Bachata and the contemporary flair of Bachata Moderna. The instruction was top tier, with master instructors sharing the knowledge and passion to help students take their dance abilities to the next level. 

While the larger workshops, brimming with enthusiastic participants, occasionally presented visibility challenges for those positioned towards the rear, the meticulously designed masterclasses (available for a supplementary fee) compensated by providing a significantly more intimate and personalized learning environment. These exclusive sessions offered focused, in-depth instruction on the core fundamentals and intricate techniques of sensual bachata, allowing for direct interaction with the instructors and personalized feedback.

### Revitalizing Respite: Poolside Gatherings and Social Connections

Strategically scheduled daily pool parties, set amidst the inviting atmosphere of the Hilton Orlando’s expansive pool area, served as a delightful bridge between the intense learning sessions of the workshops and the electrifying performances of the evenings. These gatherings provided a welcome opportunity to unwind, socialize with fellow dance enthusiasts, and bask in the comfortably mild February weather. The thoughtfully appointed pool area, complete with rejuvenating hot tubs and cozy fire pits, fostered a relaxed and convivial atmosphere, making it exceptionally easy to connect with new people and forge lasting friendships within the vibrant bachata community.

### The Pinnacle of Performance: Showcasing Passion and Dedication on Stage

The experience of stepping onto the stage, after countless hours of dedicated practice and rehearsal, was nothing short of exhilarating. The palpable energy emanating from the enthusiastic crowd was truly infectious, creating an electrifying atmosphere that fueled our performance. It was an immensely rewarding moment, a culmination of shared effort and passion, to finally present our team’s meticulously choreographed routine to such an appreciative audience. 

Beyond the student performances, the evenings were further elevated by a series of breathtaking professional showcases. The performances were truly inspiring, featuring internationally acclaimed artists who demonstrated unparalleled skill, artistry, and emotional depth. 

### A Dance Floor Alive: The Heartbeat of Social Dancing

The social dancing scene at Sensual Movement’s 9th Anniversary was nothing short of vibrant and profoundly welcoming. The exceptionally talented DJs curated a masterful blend of classic and contemporary bachata tracks, with a deliberate and satisfying emphasis on the sensual rhythms that define the genre. This carefully crafted musical landscape created an irresistible invitation to dance, making it remarkably easy to find partners of all skill levels, from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic newcomers. The dance floor pulsated with energy, remaining packed and alive until the early hours of the morning, a testament to the shared passion and infectious enthusiasm of the attendees.

### A Venue of Elegance and Comfort: The Hilton Orlando

The Hilton Orlando, with its opulent ballrooms, expansive resort-style pools, and invitingly comfortable lounges, provided the perfect backdrop for this exceptional celebration of sensual bachata. The sprawling hotel complex features a diverse array of dining establishments, boasting delectable menus designed to keep dancers energized and nourished throughout the numerous activities offered during the festival. From casual, poolside snack options to the more upscale and refined restaurants, the Hilton catered to every culinary preference. It’s worth noting, however, that the sheer popularity of the event did result in occasional, albeit minor, delays in elevator service during peak hours, a small price to pay for the overall exceptional experience.

### The Event-Travel Playbook: Doing the Host Hotel on Points & Status

For years, I had dreamed of standing before the legendary Mount Fitz Roy, and this summer, I finally packed my backpack and set off alone into the wild southern reaches of Argentina and Chile.

### Getting to the Edge of the World
The journey begins in El Chaltén, a small trekking village nestled in the northern section of Los Glaciares National Park. Unlike many mountain destinations where you need complex logistics and trail transfers, El Chaltén is a hiker’s dream—you can walk right from the doorstep of your hostel directly onto the trailhead.

### The Fitz Roy Trek (Laguna de los Tres)
The most iconic hike in the area is the trek to Laguna de los Tres. It is a 21-kilometer round trip with a challenging final ascent that will test your legs, but the reward is incomparable:
1. **The Ascent:** The first few hours wind through beautiful lenga forests and open valleys, offering spectacular glimpses of the glaciers.

*   **Offline Maps:** Ensure you download offline topographic maps (like maps.me or AllTrails Pro) as cell service disappears the moment you leave town.
*   **Leave No Trace:** Respect the pristine environment. Carry out everything you carry in.
